Lynnwood Road, Graham Road and the east-side works
Faerie Glen lies between Lynnwood Road and Atterbury Road, east of the N1. Towards its eastern side, Lynnwood Road meets Graham Road. In February 2026 Rekord reported that Graham Road, including the stretch between Lynnwood Road and Silver Lakes Road, was riddled with deep potholes, some patched with sand that washed away in the rain, and that several traffic lights had not worked properly for months. One resident said the potholes from Lynnwood towards Graham were damaging vehicles every day.
Closer in, Tshwane's bus rapid transit construction on January Masilela Drive and Glenwood Road, between Atterbury and Lynnwood roads, narrowed lanes behind barriers while it was built, Rekord reported in 2023. In 2026 Rekord also listed Lynnwood among the eastern suburbs where residents say road conditions keep getting worse.
What a proper replacement includes
If a crack has spread across the glass, the screen needs replacing. The windscreen is part of the car's structure and supports the passenger airbag, so how it is bonded matters as much as the glass. Before work starts, ask the fitter to talk you through the job. See windscreen replacement in Faerie Glen for the details.
- Which glass is being fitted, and whether it matches the original features.
- How the old adhesive and any rust on the frame will be dealt with.
- Whether new mouldings or clips are needed, and whether they are in the quote.
- Whether a camera behind the screen needs recalibration.
- How long the car must stand before you drive it, for the adhesive used.
Check the glass itself
Regulation 202 of the National Road Traffic Regulations, 1999, requires the windscreen of a modern vehicle to be safety glass, permanently marked with the maker's name or trade mark, and to let at least 70 per cent of light through. Look for the marking in a lower corner of the new screen before the fitter leaves. If you cannot find it, ask before you pay.
The RMI's body repair association, SAMBRA, has warned about substandard glass and poor fitment in the market. A clear, written quote that names the glass is the simplest protection. Keep it with the invoice in case anything goes wrong with the seal later.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to replace the whole windscreen for one long crack?
Usually, yes. Once a crack runs more than a short distance, or reaches the edge, filling it is not reliable and the screen should be replaced.
Can I go through the car wash after a new windscreen?
Wait until the fitter says the adhesive has cured enough. High-pressure water too soon can disturb the seal.
Will a non-original windscreen be legal?
Yes, if it is safety glass that meets Regulation 202, carries the permanent marking and lets enough light through. Ask what tier of glass is being offered.
