The N4 and the far east
From the Proefplaas interchange, where it meets the N1, the N4 runs east towards Bronkhorstspruit and eMalahleni. It is part of the Maputo Corridor, so freight is part of the daily mix. Worn local roads
In May 2026 Rekord reported Ward 101 councillor Malcolm de Klerk's concerns about Silver Lakes Road, Graham Road, Boschkop Road, Solomon Mahlangu Drive and others. The metro had earlier confirmed that much of Pretoria east's road infrastructure, including Silver Lakes Road, has reached the end of its design lifespan, so potholes return even after repairs. The same report said a stretch of Silver Lakes Road between Ridge and Graham roads had more than 30 potholes.
Rekord had reported in February 2026 that potholes on Graham Road had been patched with sand that washed away in the rain. Loose sand and stone on the road surface are what get thrown up into the next windscreen.
Traffic adds to it. The May 2026 report described worsening congestion on these routes. Stop-start driving close behind other vehicles means more stones thrown at short range, which is when chips are most likely.
Estate living and mobile fitment
