Windscreens and ADAS calibration in Silver Lakes and Hazeldean
Silver Lakes Road and the N4 are hard on glass, and estate access makes booking a fitter a little different. We pass your enquiry to an independent fitment business that covers the area.
Silver Lakes Road and the N4
Most people use the name Silver Lakes for more than the golf estate. The pretoria.co.za area guide describes it as the broader node that includes Hazeldean, Six Fountains, Willow Acres, Tijger Vallei, Shere and parts of Equestria. Getting in and out of that node usually means Silver Lakes Road, Graham Road or the N4.
Silver Lakes Road is in poor shape. Rekord reported in May 2026 that the metro had confirmed the road had reached the end of its design lifespan, and that a stretch between Ridge and Graham roads reportedly had more than 30 potholes. The councillor for Ward 101 also named Achillies Road, Boschkop Road and Catherine Road. Further out, the N4 heads east from the Proefplaas interchange towards Bronkhorstspruit, carrying freight on the Maputo Corridor.
Booking a fitter inside an estate
Estate security is the first practical hurdle. The area guide notes that visitors to Silver Lakes Golf and Wildlife Estate need authorised access through a resident, and most estates around it work the same way. If you want the windscreen done in your driveway, arrange the fitter's access before the day.
- Give the estate name and gate in your enquiry.
- Register the fitter with security, with the vehicle registration if you have it.
- Check any estate rules on contractor hours or working in driveways.
- Choose a covered spot if rain or strong wind is forecast.
Camera calibration after a new screen
Many newer SUVs and sedans carry a camera behind the windscreen for lane keeping, adaptive cruise or collision warning. Replacing the glass moves that camera's point of view slightly, and most manufacturers require recalibration afterwards. Calibration needs the right equipment and, for some systems, a level floor and set targets, so it may happen at a workshop even if the glass is fitted at home.
Read ADAS calibration in Silver Lakes and Hazeldean before you accept a quote, and make sure the quote says whether calibration is included.
Hail is the other thing to plan for out here. On 1 December 2025 Rekord reported golf-ball-sized hail across Pretoria the night before. Open estate parking and long driveways leave cars exposed, so use a carport or garage when storms are forecast.

Frequently asked questions
Can the glass be fitted at home and the camera calibrated elsewhere?
Yes, that is common. The fitter fits the screen where the car is, then the car goes to a workshop with the right equipment for calibration. Ask how that will be arranged.
My windscreen cracked on Silver Lakes Road. Can I claim from the metro?
You can try. Note the date, time and exact spot, photograph the damage and the pothole, and ask the City of Tshwane how to lodge a claim. A glass claim on your own policy is usually faster.
How do I know the calibration was done?
Ask for written confirmation or a calibration report, and check that no driver-assist warning lights stay on afterwards.
