Freeway driving and driver-assist

On the N1 and N14, lane-keeping and adaptive cruise systems do much of their work. They rely on a camera behind the windscreen, sometimes together with radar. A camera that is slightly off after a new screen may steer you towards a lane line or brake late. That is why calibration matters most to drivers who spend long hours on fast roads.

How it is done for a Centurion car

Static calibration happens in a workshop, with the car on a level surface facing targets placed at set distances. Dynamic calibration happens on the road, with a diagnostic tool connected while the car is driven on clear lane markings. Centurion has plenty of well-marked roads for the dynamic method, but the fitter will choose by what your vehicle maker requires, not by convenience.

If you live in an estate or work in an office park, the screen may be fitted there and the calibration done elsewhere. See windscreen replacement in Centurion for the fitting side.

  • Camera only, or camera and radar together.
  • Static, dynamic or combined calibration for your model.
  • Workshop time and whether you can wait or must leave the car.
  • Whether the insurer includes calibration in the claim.

Prices and quotes

We do not publish prices. The fitment business quotes you directly once it knows your vehicle and the damage. The general factors are on the adas camera and sensor calibration page, and our guide to what a windscreen replacement in Pretoria depends on explains how to compare quotes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need calibration if I only had a chip repaired?

Usually not, because the camera has not moved. If the chip was in front of the camera, ask the fitter to check that the system still works properly.

Can calibration be done on the N1?

Dynamic calibration needs steady driving on clear lane markings, and a busy freeway is not always suitable. The fitter will choose the right road and time.

Is calibration needed after a rear window replacement?

Rarely, unless a rear camera or sensor is attached to the glass. The fitter will check your vehicle.
